Statement: Gaza ceasefire

"We welcome reports of an imminent ceasefire agreement, in the hope that it brings to an end the suffering of so many and the release of all the hostages.

We need to support the Government’s efforts to ensure this ceasefire agreement is implemented and maintained, and to ensure a flood of life-saving aid can get into Gaza.

This is an essential opportunity to start the hard work of building a lasting two-state peace."

The reported agreement follows months of negotiations facilitated by the United States of America and Qatar, continually supported by the UK Government and international partners. 

The Labour Government has called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages from its first day in office.
